Wondering... no more :)

Studio portrait - How to pose?

That's the million dollar question!
There is not an exact formula for posing but if there is ONE tip I can give you about it IS ---> practice in front of the mirror: your faces, postures, attitude, moods, etc. it will make the big difference between a force capture and showing who you really are. The point is, getting comfortable with yourself and then some :)
I know is NOT easy to be in front of the camera while some stranger is trying to get the best side of you... to make you feel better,... it's not easy from this stranger's side either :) when you are not being YOU.
I can give directions, make you laugh, etc. we will have a good time, for sure... but, as a photographer, my goal is not only to capture a pretty smile but expose your personality, cause' you are much more than that... don't you think?

It's all about lighting...

When people ask me what I prefer between natural light and studio light I response without thinking twice: Studio lighting!
Why? Well, it's not a secret that I'm a control freak LOL but, for real... it's much more enjoyable to take pictures when you can control your light.
On the other hand, natural light is a priceless source of energy but... let's face it, to all of us who happen to be living in South Florida is... is kinda difficult to be all smiley and fancy when dealing with over 90 F degrees and... adding the mosquito factor to that :)


So, going back to my favorite source of lighting... how??? is right question:
How do you accomplish your desired lighting for a specific situation @ the studio?
Well, first ---> educating myself. I mean CONSTANTLY educating myself.
As a creative, I am so greatful to be learning from the most humble (usually, the best of the best... without having to show off credentials, LOL) photographers out there who are willing to pass around their techniques and then some. Hat off to them!
Strobes, speedlights, reflectors and a pro camera (yeah, the one with too many buttons to play with) make it happens.
My ideal situation is everything off-camera (got it) and wireless (half way done)... I'll get there, eventually :)
There are many DIY websites out there which give you great ideas on how to create your own lighting devices and believe me, I tried a bunch of them but... the right gear from a reputable vendor (warranty involved) is at the end, the cheapest price... my honest opinion.
Oops, I almost forget... tons of trial and error make perfection and you can tell I breath photography 24/7 :)

What's new this week?

After Father's Day looks like everything is coming back to normal and I'm spending some time re-grouping and planning ahead.
One of my favorite vendors is re-vamping her venture and I'm more than glad to help her out taking care of the product and commercial photography side of the biz.
What else?
Can't wait to meet with a local planner tomorrow @ my studio.
Baby L will be out any minute from now and I have my gear more than ready for him :) his father has a bunch of captures' ideas and I love when everybody (including me) gets creative.
It's SUMMER time... so hope everybody is enjoying themselves like we do!!!

On a personal note: I see so much of me on my lil' girl's look that is scary LOL

What have I been done during this last week?

This maternity photoshoot was simply...hmmm... yeah! I'm speechless... For privacy reasons I won't show the HOT captures so you are gonna have to trust me on this one :)

Tia was looking for very professional, good taste, lil' clothes, sensual, sexy kinda theme and, we nailed it!!!

Wow! and June is already here...
This past half of 2009 was non-stop and I loved it.
I wish I could have more time to blog but I don't so... let's make it productive.

Photo session - behind the scenes

Time to give you the scoop. This project was a team effort. A combination of my photography and Steve's yoga happening @ the same time. It took us a while to get on the same page, specially for me to follow his flow. What you see is the final pose but I actually photographed every single movement from point A to Z to feature pure form.


Technically speaking, we wanted to capture tons of muscle definition combining highlights and shadows, that's why I didn't use any on front or back lighting. Enjoy!

I had the pleasure to photograph Steve and his Tough Yoga during the weekend. I'm speechless! and I rarely am...


Life is a trip... I used to watch American Gladiators during the late 80's every single Saturday morning, it was one of my 'can't miss' shows... don't ask me why :)
Steve used to be AG "Flash" and today he is one of my hubby's BFF. Funny, huh?


I have over 400 images to edit from this session so... let me get going.
